Gulf Shores talks paid parking, Iron Bowl is coming...

We could have another brief brush with freezing temperatures tonight. The forecast calls for Tuscaloosa to reach thirty two degrees for an hour or two tomorrow morning. Selma will be just above freezing tonight. That’s a warm spell compared to temperatures in the twenties this morning. Forecasters were warning residents to cover their plants and bring in the pets with a cold blast making Alabama as cold as the northern plains states. The outlook looks milder heading into Thanksgiving.

She says that these packages give families something to be thankful for during the holidays…

“We have so many people in our community that really are struggling, that would not have Thanksgiving for their family otherwise, that really have to choose you know, am I going to keep the power on or are we going to eat.”

Both the Alabama Crimson Tide and Auburn Tigers handily defeated their opponents over the weekend, setting up both teams for the annual Iron Bowl rivalry game next Saturday. Cyrus Jones returned two punts for touchdowns, the only Alabama player to do so since 1944, according to school records. Head Coach Nick Saban says Jones’s production was needed.

“You know, Cyrus has got really good running skills. He was a receiver when he first came here and did a really good job at that. The last two weeks, we’ve made some big plays in the punt return game, and I think that’s something we want to continue to build on.”

Derrick Henry also scored twice as the Tide pounded Charleston Southern 56-6. For Auburn, Jeremy Johnson threw two touchdown passes and ran for two more scores to lead Auburn to a 56-34 victory over Idaho. Now it’s on to the Iron Bowl for Alabama. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. on CBS. ?

Some restaurants in Gulf Shores are waiting to see whether the city council will charge their customers for parking. The board is set to vote on a plan to have close to two hundred paid parking spots near Mikee’s restaurant, Ribs and Reds, and DeSoto’s Seafood Kitchen. The original plan called for three hundred and forty one spaces. The revised plan will charge nothing for parking during December, January, or February. Currently the city has close to five hundred paid parking spaces. Three hundred and fifty of those slots are at the public beach. The going rate is now five dollars a day, charged from March through the end of September.. ?
