Governor Will Give State of State Speech Tuesday

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – Governor Bob Riley will deliver his State of the State speech Tuesday night. House Speaker Seth Hammett says legislators are waiting to hear the governor's plans to handle the state's continuing fiscal hardships. The governor has until Thursday to propose a General Fund and operating budget for the 2006 fiscal year. That begins October First. The General Fund is expected to spend nearly one-and-a-half billion dollars this year. However, it may need at least 200 million dollars more next year just to maintain current programs.

Alabama Public Radio will carry the speech live at 6:30 PM Tuesday.
