Governor Robert Bentley is refusing Syrian refugees relocating to Alabama.
Bentley says in a news release on Sunday that, “After full consideration of this weekend's attacks of terror on innocent citizens in Paris, I will oppose any attempt to relocate Syrian refugees to Alabama through the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program. As your Governor, I will not stand complicit to a policy that places the citizens of Alabama in harm's way."
Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is working diligently with the FBI, DHS and federal intelligence partners to monitor any possible threats. To date there has been no credible intelligence of terror threats in Alabama.
The terrorist rampage across Paris killed 129 people and wounded hundreds more.
Birmingham is coming closer to allowing car for hire companies like Uber and Lyft to operate in the city.
These businesses haven’t been allowed up to now because of issues like insurance and background checks. The City of Tuscaloosa has had similar concerns in the past.
Jonathan Austin is the Council President in Birmingham. He says the issue to this point is all about ensuring the safety for people in Birmingham…
“Our ultimate goal is for those individuals to be safely transported and we know there is a history of problems with TNC’s, in other cities and so we want to work with those TNC”s in our city to do our very best to insure their safety and the liability not come back on the city of Birmingham.”
Austin adds he believes the issues can be overcome with dialogue between the T-N-C’s and the city of Birmingham. The vote happens tomorrow during the Birmingham City Council’s meeting.
Alabama junior defensive end Johnathan Allen is the S-E-C Defensive Lineman of the week. Allen had seven tackles, three of those were for a loss including three sacks and forced a fumble in Saturday’s 31-to-6 win over Mississippi State.
Coach Nick Saban is proud of Allen who has seen his progression during his time in a Crimson Tide uniform…
“He’s always been very athletic and had great first-step quickness. He does a great job of using his hands and moving his feet which is really critical in being a good pass rusher. He’s got enough pop now to turn speed to power on people as well as enough quickness to get by them. So that’s usually is the combination that makes a really good pass rusher.”
In addition to Allen, Junior Running Back Derrick Henry was the S-E-C Offensive Player of the Week after amassing 204 yards and four touchdowns on the ground against the Bulldogs. Alabama hosts Charleston Southern Saturday at 3 p.m. on the SEC Network.
