Game On! Alabama meets Ohio State in the Sugar Bowl (again)

All eyes are on New Orleans as Alabama and Ohio State face off again during today’s Sugar Bowl. The Tide and the Buckeyes first met in New Orleans in 1978. Alabama under Coach Bear Bryant beat Ohio State, coached by Woody Hayes, 35-6.

Now, both teams are vying for a slot in the first ever college football championship game. The winner of the Sugar bowl will face either Oregon or FSU who are playing in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. The Buckeyes have a reputation for physical football similar to LSU. Defensive back Landon Collins says the Tide needs to be ready for whatever comes…

“Ohio State is an excellent team. They do what they do well. They play fast, they play extremely well, and they’re a great team overall. So, we’re going to play our A game and give them our best shot.”

Alabama was in the Sugar Bowl last year when the team lost to Oklahoma forty five to thirty one. The big catch for fans of all four teams was the choice of buying a travel package for today’s semi-final games or gamble on tickets and travel expenses for the title game in Texas later this month. Alabama and Oregon fans get the benefit of games close to home. The trip is a trickier call for Ohio State fans, who face a cross-country trip. Seminoles supporters just traveled to see their team win a national title last year, and many are hoping they picked right by skipping the semifinal trip. The Florida State booster club had about 1,000 tickets left over after it fulfilled fan requests for the Rose Bowl.
