Fort Rucker, AL – An Army pilot who was based at Fort Rucker died in a helicopter crash during a training mission in South Korea. Family members and friends say Chief Warrant Officer Aaron Cowan was a good instructor and a strong soldier. The 37-year-old New Mexico native survived the crash Saturday but died hours later in a hospital. Cowan had served in the Army for more than 18 years. He leaves behind a wife and an eight-year-old son in Enterprise. A memorial service for Cowan and another soldier killed in the crash is planned for Tuesday in South Korea. He will be buried in Alabama. Officials are investigating what caused the Apache attack helicopter to crash near the North Korean border. Cowan served as a helicopter instructor, assigned to the second Infantry Division in South Korea. He was on his third tour of duty in that country.
