Foley Residence to Open for Hourly Workers

By Alabama Public Radio

Foley, AL – Hourly workers who are struggling financially in Baldwin County will soon have a new place to live. A Huntsville firm is building the county's first housing development for workers who can't afford to live near their jobs on the Gulf Coast. Realtors say the rental payments will be made by the company that employs the workers living in the units, and all the residential units will only be available to employees of participating companies. Rents will vary, but they'll apparently never be more than a certain percentage of the workers' income. Lewiston Hall Place in Foley will hold 100 people and will open in late May, offering double-occupancy dorm suites. Guy Storey is the manager of Clark Personnel Services. He says the lack of housing for tourism workers is a catastrophic problem that he expects to get worse with new developments.
