Federal Judge Returns To Tutwiler Prison

By Alabama Public Radio

Wetumpka, AL – A federal judge who toured Tutwiler Prison in 2002 and declared it unconstitutionally safe returned Wednesday to tour the prison again and talk with prisoners. One inmate told Judge Myron Thompson that she's been denied medications while incarcerated at Tutwiler. She also said she hopes a settlement of a lawsuit over conditions at the Wetumpka prison will be approved. The settlement calls for a doctor, mental health expert and attorneys and advocates from the Southern Center for Human Rights to monitor the prison for four years.
