DeMarco, Palmer Square off in 6th District Runoff

The two Republicans competing in Alabama's 6th District congressional race say the projected low turnout gives the race an air of uncertainty.

State Rep. Paul DeMarco and think-tank founder Gary Palmer meet in the July 15 GOP runoff. They are vying to replace retiring Alabama Rep. Spencer Bachus.

Both candidates are pointing to their experience — DeMarco as a legislator and Palmer with his policy work.

DeMarco led the crowded primary field in the initial June election. DeMarco is endorsed by the National Rifle Association, Manufacture Alabama and all but one congressional district legislator.

Palmer is backed by the Club for Growth, Rick Santorum and former primary opponents Sen. Scott Beason and Will Brooke.

The winner faces Democrat Avery Vise in November.
