DA Files Suit Against Construction Company

By Alabama Public Radio

Bessemer, AL – Bessemer District Attorney Arthur Green has filed a lawsuit to dissolve Roland Pugh Construction. Prosecutors say the company offered bribes to county officials in exchange for 150 million dollars worth of county sewer work. The company is accused of paying 172-thousand dollars in cash, trips and land to county employees between 1997 and 2002. A federal grand jury has already indicted the company, two top officials and five current or former county employees. District Attorney Green says the company will have to pay a fine if it's convicted. A lawyer representing Roland Pugh Construction says the lawsuit is surprising and premature.
