Bill Would Legalize Medical Marijuana

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – The issue of medical marijuana has come up in the legislative session. Representative Laura Hall is sponsoring a bill that would legalize the possession of small amounts of marijuana as long as it's used for pain management. She says the proposal would help people who are dealing with chronic pain or terminal illnesses. The bill was introduced in the state House Thursday. Laura Campbell is among its supporters. She says she's allergic to almost all pain medications, and she's had to resort to breaking the law by smoking marijuana to manage her pain. Representative Hall says the measure would restrict marijuana use to small amounts specifically to relieve serious pain.
