2015 marked the fiftieth anniversary of “Bloody Sunday,” in the town of Selma, Alabama. Voter rights marchers, in 1965, were attacked by State Troopers and a Sheriff’s posse who used horses, tear gas, and clubs to beat back the crowd.
The Alabama Public Radio news team brought this event to its listeners with an “audio postcard.” I, and assistant news director Stan Ingold, gathered sound from the chaotic fiftieth anniversary observance, including one-on-one sound with Bernice King, the daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King, the Reverend Jesse Jackson, and Alabama Governor Robert Bentley, among others.
