Montgomery, AL – Lieutenant Governor Lucy Baxley has taken a legal step required to campaign for governor. She has filed paperwork of her intentions with the secretary of state's office. Baxley says some recent polling information gave her the confidence to start forming a campaign committee. But she says she'll hold a formal campaign announcement and discuss her campaign platform later. Baxley chose Ann Payne to chair her campaign. Payne is a past president of the Alabama Cattlemen's Association and a former Democratic candidate for agriculture commissioner. Baxley's campaign treasurer is Gene Stabler, who spent several years as Alabama's assistant state treasurer.
