Bark In The Park III

Bark in the Park 3

A dog park is a great place to enjoy spending time with your best friend!  At the Will May Dog Park in Tuscaloosa, there is a fenced area for small dogs and another for large dogs, where they can run and exercise and play in a safe, contained area leash-free.

Today in Tuscaloosa, dogs will be wagging their tails with excitement at the third annual Bark in the Park. Sponsored by the Tuscaloosa Association of Realtors, the event raises funds for the care and maintenance of the Will May Dog Park, named in memory of a boy who loved dogs. The park opens at 10 AM with a pet parade, followed by contests for best pet costume, best dog trick, a dog relay, an obstacle course, and of course, the dog-owner look-alike competition.

For humans, there will be several food vendors, and a Vendor Village where you can shop for pet-related items and services, and learn about the organizations in the area who work to help our four-footed friends. Members of the Daisy 100 Girl Scout Troop from Tuscaloosa will be teamed up with adoptable dogs in need of permanent homes, giving them special treatment and walking them around the park in hopes of finding that perfect human for each dog.

New this year is a live band stage performance by the group Mellowship. You can bring blankets and lawn chairs and kick back and relax while you listen to the music. For the younger visitors, there will be a children’s area with inflatables, and volunteers doing face-painting, and leading games like hopscotch.

This really is an event for the ENTIRE family. It will run from ten until two o’clock today. Admission is free, but donations are greatly appreciated. Last year’s event saw 1,000 dogs and 3,000 people, and raised $18,000 for the Will May Foundation.

The weatherman says it’s going to be a beautiful day, so grab a leash and your canine buddy, and head over to the Will May Dog Park, part of Sokol Park on Watermelon Road in Tuscaloosa. The two of you can play and relax and have a great time hanging out together maybe making new friends. If you have never visited the county’s only official dog park, you’re in for a real treat today. The third annual Bark in the Park is the place to be in Tuscaloosa today, when you’re speaking of pets.
