AU Trustees Cleared in Independent Review

By Alabama Public Radio

Auburn, AL – An independent review by consultants found no unethical conduct or improper influence on Auburn University's board of trustees. The report by two lawyers and a consultant hired by Auburn was released just after the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools removed the school from academic probation this week. Tuskegee civil rights lawyer Fred Gray and President pro tem of the University of Alabama trustees, John McMahon, wrote a joint report after conducting separate examinations of trustees' connections. Their findings were reviewed by a third consultant, William Weary of Washington, D.C. Weary says he found Auburn trustees' conduct consistent with national expectations nad practice. The consultants also found no problem with the business dealings between other trustees and controversial Montgomery banker Bobby Lowder.
