APR competes in today's "Great Chili Cookoff!"

You know Alabama Public Radio’s Stan Ingold as a national award winning journalist, but did you know he’s a blue ribbon winning barbeque and chili champ as well? The APR news team (with Stan as our “ringer”) is teaming up with WVUA-TV to support today’s Great Tuscaloosa Chili Cookoff to benefit the Tuscaloosa exchange club, and we want your vote!

Stan, and co-cooker Brian Poellnitz (APR’s Operations Manager,) is leading team “Lights, Camera, Chili” for the Digital Media Center and our partners at WVUA-TV. The event is today at the Bryant Conference Center. Come on out, eat some great chili—but of course—vote for team “Lights, Camera, Chili for the grand prize!

Along with cooking great chili, the Digital Media Center team is an integral part of the University of Alabama’s College of Communication and Information Sciences, preparing tomorrow’s journalists today. At Alabama Public Radio, our news room interns perform an average of 775 hours of work per year, resulting in 142 minutes of Alabama focused news that airs statewide on our daily newscasts. And we make great chili too!

Admission to today’s Great Chili Cook off is $10 with proceeds benefiting the Tuscaloosa Exchange Club, which is a non-profit group that provides volunteer community service, youth development, and the prevention of child abuse. Come and vote for team “Lights, Camera, Chili!”

Pat Duggins is news director for Alabama Public Radio.
