Another Alabama Soldier Dies in Iraq

By Alabama Public Radio

Mobile, AL – A 26-year-old soldier from Mobile has been killed in Iraq. Relatives of Army Specialist Steven Ray Givens say he was fatally injured Sunday. Givens served with the Third Infantry, Third Brigade and was based in Fort Benning, Georgia. He is survived by his wife and two-year-old son. No information about the death has been released by the Department of Defense. But the soldier's uncle, Mobile County Sheriff's Deputy Billy Givens, announced the death Tuesday, saying the family was notified and given only a few details Monday. Givens says his nephew had planned to make the Army his career. He had served an earlier 14-month tour in Iraq and went back in January.
