Alabama Unit to Return Home Without One Member

By Alabama Public Radio

Aliceville, AL – About 140 Alabama soldiers are expected to arrive home around 9 a.m. Tuesday. The Alabama National Guard's 2101st Transportation Company has detachments in Aliceville, Camden and Butler. Guard officials say the unit transported petroleum products to military forces. One of the unit's soldiers was killed in Iraq in May. Army Staff Sergeant John McGee died when his tanker truck was hit by a bomb blast. There are currently eight Army National Guard units from Alabama serving in Iraq and another three units in Afghanistan.
