Alabama GOP Chief: "No Third term," Airbus is hiring

The Alabama Republican party will have to find another chairman. Bill Armistead says he won't run for a third term when the party's executive committee meets next February. He was elected to a two-year term in 2011 and re-elected in 2013. Armistead says he wants to be involved in the 2016 Republican presidential primary. He says that would not be possible if he were party chairman because the chairman is supposed to be neutral. During Armistead's leadership, the GOP won every race for statewide offices in 2012 and 2014.

Law officers in northwest Alabama say they are seeing a surge of heroin abuse and crime related to the drug. A-P-R’s Stan Ingold has more…

They say the resurgence of heroin in Alabama in recent years mirrors national patterns. The Florence Times-Daily reports that authorities in several northwest Alabama counties say they didn't see heroin in their areas before 2013. But in the past two years, they've made arrests for drug crimes related to its sale. In Lauderdale County, officials reported five overdose-related deaths this year. Experts say that part of the reason heroin is gaining popularity is that Alabama and other states have cracked down on prescription drug abuse, prompting some addicts to search for heroin instead. ? ?

Mobile’s airbus assembly line is still under construction. That’s not stopping the European airplane builder from looking for its latest group of hourly positions. The actual hiring isn’t expected to take place until early next year. Al.com reports the aircraft manufacturer is seeking both final assembly line tool shop attendants. These workers are expected to make thirteen dollars and fifty cents an hour with flight line technicians with starting pay of three dollars more an hour. Airbus is building its first A320 assembly line in the United States at the Mobile Aeroplex. ?

Santa Claus will be getting some help this week on behalf of children in Alabama. Sarrell Dental Center is collecting new and unwrapped toys and gifts this week for Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham. The toys will be used for The Sugar Plum Shop. That’s Children’s of Alabama’s in-hospital toy store. Sarah Register is the Community Outreach Manager of Sarrell Dental. She says that the Sugar Plum Shop was designed for patients and their families who can’t leave the hospital to go Christmas shopping.

“The Sugar plum shop is an in-hospital toy store where the patients that are at Children’s hospital can go and shop for their families because they can’t get out of the hospital. So it’s just a way for them to shop and get free presents for their family members.”

Sarrell Dental Center will be collecting toys at their Dothan and Enterprise locations through Friday. Toys can be dropped off at the offices this week from 8 am to 5 pm. ?
