Alabama lawmakers cobbled together a spending and taxation package of about one hundred and sixty six million dollars. That’s short of the two hundred million dollar budgetary shortfall Governor Robert Bentley was predicting during the budget debate.
Senate Pro Temp Del Marsh says the situation might be even worse with state agencies are facing close to eighty eight million dollars in cuts in the new fiscal year starting October first.
One place where Alabama taxpayers could feel the pinch is the next time they need to get a new driver’s license. Back in August, the state’s law enforcement agency predicted having to close thirty three license bureaus on October first.

The City of Mobile says it knows when Carnival Cruise Line will begin trips out of the Port City.
The maiden voyage of the Carnival cruise ship Fantasy will begin in November of 2016. The Mobile City Council approved the deal with the Miami-based cruise line this morning.
Officials say the more than two thousand passenger ship will offer four and five-day cruises to ports in Mexico, including Cozumel, Costa Maya and Progreso.
Carnival ended its seven-year tenure with Mobile in 2011 and relocated to New Orleans because the trips weren't making enough money.
Cruises will run through late November 2017.
Residents of Northport will have a better opportunity to interact positively with their local police department.
“See you at the Station” is an event hosted by the Northport Police Department. The purpose is to bring the community together.
Police Department Communications Relations Officer Carrie Baker says she hopes for more of these events.
“We’re hoping that this event is just one of many that we put on here at the Police Department. We’re hoping that this event creates a stronger sense of partnership and community and pride for this beautiful city that we have.”
