State Rep. Joe Hubbard is running for attorney general of Alabama.

Democratic attorney general candidate Joe Hubbard has settled a lawsuit accusing him of defaming a security company.

The settlement includes a statement by Hubbard that DSI Security Services won a state contract in a fair and open process. He says the settlement did not involve any financial payment.

Hubbard, a Montgomery attorney, represented National Security of Alabama when it filed a lawsuit last year challenging the awarding of a legislative security contract to DSI Security Services. The suit alleged the speaker of the Alabama House had ties to DSI. DSI said no relationship existed and sued for defamation.

Hubbard said Tuesday it became apparent no improper relationship existed and regrets the suit may have called into question the ethical standards of DSI. He called DSI "an Alabama success story."
