Montgomery, AL – There are 13 people on Alabama's death row who committed their crimes when they were either 16 or 17 years old. Tuesday's ruling from the U-S Supreme Court means those convictions will be vacated. A state corrections spokesperson says those sentences probably will be changed to life without parole. The U-S Supreme Court has ruled it's unconstitutional to execute anyone for a crime committed before the age of 18. The decision was five-to-four. State Attorney General Troy King says the decision is upsetting. In a written release, King said those who prosecute crimes now have one less tool available to them. He says the decision is a denial of justice for those who commit such crimes while underage. King also says he is deeply disappointed with the ruling.
