Athens, AL – Voters will decide a property tax issue Tuesday for Athens and Limestone County school systems. They'll vote on whether to continue 20-year property taxes designated for schools. $1.1 million a year is at stake for city schools, and $2.6 million is on the line for county schools during the next two decades. Athens City Schools Superintendent Orman Bridges, Jr., and county superintendent Barry Carroll say it's important for voters to know that no new taxes are involved. The two systems would share 8.5 mills of property tax. That would generate about $3.7 million a year for the next 20 years.
