A 2009 graduate of MSU, Bates got his first job in Journalism in the news and sports department of WYMT-TV in Hazard, Ky.  In 2012, Bates returned to Morehead and served as the Sports Editor for The Morehead News Group, the local newspaper.

When he is not on the air during the weekday afternoons, MacKenzie is watching sports and getting acclimated to Alabama Football, while cheering on his beloved Kentucky Wildcats and Morehead State Eagles.  He also spends time with his cat, Murphy.
