Hearts of Dixie is, as the title suggests, 50 mini-biographies of Alabamians of the 20th, 19th, and, in a very few cases, the 18th century.
I began leafing through this oversized book?it approaches being a coffee-table book?and looking at the many pictures. Each entry has a full-page photo, usually very good, and a few smaller accompanying photos.
Montgomery, AL – Fewer Alabama residents are getting married, and there are also fewer married couples getting divorced. New statistics from the Alabama Center for Health Statistics say that both state and national numbers show that people are putting off getting married until their late 20s. Experts also say divorces are down partly because fewer people are getting married. They also say older couples with established jobs are less likely to face financial problems, and that's a major cause of divorces.
Montgomery, AL – A new Web site is available to help college-bound students in the state. The site offers information on everything from how to fill out financial aid applications to what courses to take while still in high school. www.Alabamamentor.org is sponsored by the Alabama Student Loan Program. It also allows students to compare grades and test scores with the admission requirements of colleges and universities in the state.
