Bush Appoints Pryor to Appeals Court

Washington, DC – With a blast at Senate Democrats, President Bush has gone over their heads to install another controversial appeals court judge. Acting while Congress is out of town, the president used a so-called "recess appointment" to place Alabama Attorney General William Pryor on the Eleventh Circuit in Atlanta. The appointment's good until early next year.

Montgomery, AL – Former Alabama Attorney General Bill Pryor describes his move to a federal appeals court as bittersweet. Pryor resigned as attorney general today to take a temporary appointment to the Eleventh U-S Circuit Court of Appeals. Pryor says he loved being attorney general for more than seven years and he will miss the tremendous challenges of the office. But Pryor says he's also grateful for the opportunity to serve on an appellate court that is one step below the U-S Supreme Court.
