Tuscaloosa, AL – This week, Tuscaloosa residents can learn more about a major redevelopment plan for the downtown area. An early version of the plan calls for the demolition of 7 city blocks and the displacement of more than 40 local businesses. A public meeting is being held on the issue this Thursday evening. The meeting will be held in downtown Tuscaloosa at the First Baptist Church Children's Center beginning at 6 pm.
Hamilton, AL – A judge threw out the state's case against Senator Roger Bedford Wednesday. Bedford faced charges of extortion and attempted extortion in a case involving the Marion County Commission. Alabama Public Radio's Pat Sanders spoke with Senator Bedford after the conclusion of the trial.
Hamilton, AL – A judge has thrown out the extortion charges against state Senator Roger Bedford, saying the state failed to prove the powerful Democratic lawmaker had made a threat to commissioners in rural Marion County.
Circuit Judge Jerry White said today he didn't think any crime occurred. White said the prosecution had to show that Bedford threatened the commissioners and had the ability to carry it out.
