Auburn University Band Invited to Washington

Auburn, AL – 320 members of the Auburn University band will head to Washington DC next week to take part in the 55th Presidential Inaugural Parade. Auburn band director Rick Good says the January 20th event will be ``a once in a lifetime opportunity.'' The A-U band is the only one from Alabama invited.

Aderholt Travels to Asia to View Tsunami Damage

Undated – U-S Congressman Robert Aderholt left for South Asia Wednesday. He'll survey the damage caused by late December tsunami. He says he's planning to visit some of the hardest-hit areas. Aderholt also will meet with Sri Lanka's prime minister and several parliament members. He says he and other congressmen are making the trip to conduct on-site damage assessments. Aderholt says they will then return to the U-S- to ask for more financial aid for affected regions. The group is scheduled to return Sunday.

King, Chapman Support Cavanaugh for GOP Chair

Montgomery, AL – State Attorney General Troy King and State Auditor Beth Chapman are supporting Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh to become the next chairman of the Alabama Republican Party. King says he and Chapman are preparing to send a letter to the 350 members of the State Republican Executive Committee. The group will meet in Montgomery February 12th to elect a successor to Marty Connors. So far, Cavanaugh is the only announced candidate for the GOP chairmanship. If she wins it, she would be the first woman to hold the position.

Flu Shots in Tuscaloosa County

Tuscaloosa, AL – The peak of the flu season is right around the corner. And with a shortage of doses across the U.S., not every person is able to get this sickness fighting vaccine. Alabama Public Radio's Bobby Puppione reports more residents in Alabama are receiving the flu vaccine this week.

"Tomorrow will be my oldest daughter's 38th birthday and I remember that 38 years ago today I was in the hospital because I had contacted the flu and it made me very, very weak."
