ATRIP en Gov. Bentley's Road Program Nears $1 Billion <p>Gov. Robert Bentley has announced another $372 million in road and bridge projects for 45 counties in Alabama.</p><p>The announcement Wednesday alongside a $10 million bridge widening project in Calera will bring Bentley's Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program to nearly $1 billion in projects. The Republican governor says that will culminate the program for now because that's all the state should borrow at this time. Robert Bentley has signed legislation to help all counties participate in a program to repair roads and bridges.</P> <P>The state has started a more than $600 million road and bridge repair program. The state puts up 80 percent and local governments pay 20 percent toward projects. Some counties don't have enough revenue to provide the local match. The new legislation allows the state to sell up to $25 million in bonds to pay the local match.
